This episode features Jamila Ross and her husband Akino who both are the owners of The Copper Door B&B in Historic Overtown, a 22 room bed and breakfast. The millennial couple are breaking boundaries as young, Black hoteliers and are an inspiration as a young power couple with an amazing future ahead.
I respect the hustle. I respect the grind. We definitely need to see more Black-owned hotels nationally and definitely in this market. – Fabiola Fleuranvil
Jamila Ross talks us through how the duo transformed this historic gem of a building with a rich history in Overtown’s heyday and restored it to a charming and cosmopolitan bed and breakfast with amazing local hospitality. The couple personally greets each guest, prepares breakfast, and essentially acts as the visitor’s local plug to all things Miami.
The couple recently expanded to add an on-site cafe, Rosie’s, which now allows guests and locals to stop by for your favorite sips and cafe foods.
