Miami Gardens got its first Starbucks store, which opened on October 16, 2017 and is operated by Florida A&M University Alumni, Duritta Jones. This store is the first Starbucks in the Southeast to be designated as an in-store training space where young people can receive customer service and retail skills training. As part of this training program, the local Starbucks has partnered with the South Florida CARES Mentoring Movement to provide the training program to at least 100 local youth each year and connecting them to internships, apprenticeships, and jobs. The store is also working locally to do business with local women and minority-owned vendors and suppliers.
